The Immigrants
Peter: I saw this remnant of the past near the beach at Big Traverse. I wondered how many hours were spent hand-sawing wood at that outpost. A great calmness surrounded this wooden memorial to work.
Barbara: As soon as I saw this image, I thought of those who came here to this rugged and daunting region, who worked to carve out a life in sometimes seemingly insurmountable challenges. This piece pays tribute to those who came before, to those who found their lives intimately bonded to both the beauties and rigors of this place, as much a work of the heart, as of the hand.
